Other Site Characteristics

A varied and dissected part of the calcareous and dolomitic northern Alps and pre-Alps, covered by submontane, montane, subalpine and alpine vegetation belts.This site also includes the habitat class "other land" (HabCode: N23) with a cover of <1%.

4.2 Quality and importance

The main vegetation consists of mosaic of climax stands dominated by Abies, Picea and Fagus and relict forests of Pinus silvestris and Larix. Largest primordially instructured spruce-fir-beech mixed forest in the middle of Europe (virgin forest) with East Alpine endemics.
