Der Weiher ist durch Setzung eines ehemaligen Bergwerksgebietes enstanden. Innerhalb einer ausgeräumten Landschaft ist dadurch ein hochwertiger Lebensraum mit einer Vielzahl von Kleinbiotopen mit Wasserflächen und typischen Randvegetationen entstanden. Kleinflächige Moorwiesen.
