Other Site Characteristics

Das Gebiet liegt im Bereich des Ennstalbodens, der hier an der Einmündung des Irdningbaches eine Breite zwischen 1,5 und 2 km erreicht. Ursprünglich hatte die Enns einen gewundenen Lauf, der bei Regulierungsarbeiten gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts gestreckt wurde. Bei den beiden im Gebiet vorhandenen Altlaufresten handelt es sich um jene, die als erste des gesamten Regulierungsvorhabens von einem Durchstich betroffen waren. Es ist nur mehr ein verhältnismäßig kleiner Teil der ursprünglichen Wasserfläche erhalten, wobei die Verlandungszonen teilweise von Naßwiesen, teilweise von Weidenauen eingenommen werden. Besonders im Bereich der westlichen Altarmschlinge wurden die Wasserflächen durch Ausbaggern zu Teichen vergrößert.
