Other Site Characteristics

Die Salzach fließt rezent in einem schmalen, zum Teil durch Ufersicherungen eingeengten Flussbett. Die begleitenden Auwälder werden nur noch teilweise von den Hochwässern der Salzach beeinflusst. Von Bedeutung sind die von den Hängen zufließenden Kleingewässer, die den Grundwasserkörper speisen.Die Ettenau steht mit ihren Wäldern teilweise am Übergang zwischen rezenten Grauerlen- und Eschenauen zu austrocknenden, degenerierenden Autypen mit Heißländen, wie sie in Oberösterreich an der Traun ausgebildet sind. Eine Heißländentwicklung hat aber noch nicht eingesetzt.Der systematische Status der Kammmolch-Population (Triturus carnifex - Triturus cristatus Hybridpopulation) ist ungeklärt.

4.2 Quality and importance

Die Auwälder weisen eine gute Lebensraumeignung für den Biber und verschiedene Wald- und Wasservogelarten auf. Große Bedeutung als Rast- und Überwinterungsplatz für Wasservögel.
