Erklärung zur Habitatklasse "Alpines Grasland": schließt Almen mit einLatschengebüsch unter "Heath Scrub,..." angegebenDas NSG Kalkhochalpen umfaßt den Salzburger Anteil der Kalkstöcke zwischen Saalach- und Salzachtal: Göllmassiv, Hagengebirge, Hochkönig, Steinernes Meer und Reiter Steinberge. Das NSG weist eine Vielzahl (ca. 200) touristisch nicht erschlossene Karsthöhlen und Schlünde auf. Im Gebiet liegen auch zwei Naturwaldreservate (völlig außer Nutzung): NDM Mitterkaser und GLT Biederer AlpswaldDas Gebiet wurde nur als FFH Gebiet ausgewiesen, Angaben zu Vogelarten erfolgen nur zu InformationszweckenEine Erweiterung des Gebiets um 15 ha ("Luegpalfen") erfolgte 12/2014.

4.2 Quality and importance

Das auch landschaftsästhetisch sehr hochwertige Naturschutzgebiet Kalkhochalpen mit seinen imposanten Kalkstöcken und riesigen Kartsflächen besitzt durch einen Höhenunterschied von über 2500 m und versxchiedenste klimatische Verhältnisse eine Vielzahl von unterschiedlichsten Lebensräumen. Diese beherbergen eine außerordentliche Vielzahl von Lebensgemeinschaften, Tieren und Pflanzen und sind sehr naturnahNachtrag 8/2001: Aufgrund der Lebensraumstrukturen wird von Moosspezialisten das Vorkommen mehrerer Moosarten (i.e.Buxbaumia viridis, Dicranum viride, Mannia triandra, Scapania massalongi) erwartet, definitive Nachweise liegen aber derzeit noch nicht vor. Diese Arten wurden bisher in 3.2.g. mit P geführt. Von Tayloria rudolphiana liegt ein alter Nachweis vor (von vor 1950).Von Myotis bechsteinii lag nur ein alter Hinweis vor, neuere Untersuchungen konnten ein Vorkommen nicht bestätigen. Die Art wurde deshalb aus der Liste 3.2.c. gestrichen.Die Erweiterungsflächen von 2014 ("Luegpalfen") umfassen 3.4 ha große Schlucht- und Hangmischwälder (9180), 5.8 ha Orchideen-Kalkbuchenwälder (9150) und 5.8 ha Kalkfelsformationen (8210), alle LRTs mit dem Erhaltungszustand A. Der neu hinzugekommene Kalkbuchenwald bietet weiters ausgezeichnete Lebensraum-Voraussetzungen für Rosalia alpina.Im September 2015 wurde die Flächengröße des LRT 6110 auf 28.4 ha korrigiert (besserer Kenntnisstand) und der LRT 7210 gestrichen (besserer Kenntnisstand, ursprünglich vermutlich irrtümlicher Bezug auf Kalkniedermoore).
