Other Site Characteristics

Das Gebiet liegt in der Kalkzone und ist zu einem großen Teil geprägt von Kalkfelsen, Kalkschrofen sowie Kalkschotterreisen. Lediglich in den Talbereichen sowie im östlichen Bereich kommen Nadelwälder und Mischwälder vor.

4.2 Quality and importance

Das gesamte Gebiet des Karwendel ist zusammengefaßt als Natura 2000 Gebiet "Alpenpark Karwendel" und besteht aus mehreren Schutzkategorien nach dem Tiroler Naturschutzgesetz. 6.3 Conservation measures (optional)

Die Tiroler Landesregierung, Abteilung Umweltschutz ließ eine Inventarisierung des Gebiets vornehmen. Dabei wurden seit 1995 laufend Veröffentlichungen über Vegetation, Käferfauna, Schmetterlingsfauna etc erstellt. Eine Koordinationsstelle "Alpenpark Karwendel" für das Managment des großen Schutzgebietes wurde beim Amt der Landesregierung, Abteilung Umweltschutz eingerichtet. Die Aufgabe dieser Koordinationsstelle ist neben der Umsetzung von Managementmaßnahmen auch die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit im Schutzgebiet und seinen angrenzenden Gemeinden.
