Other Site Characteristics

This is the source area of the river Kleine Nete, with a network of flowing brooks, dikes and ditches. Locally calcareous seepage water originating from artificial irrigation with water from the Meuse basin creates possibilities for non Campine habitats. The lower reaches of the wide valley hold an important peat bog area with neighbouring forested land dunes.

4.2 Quality and importance

Very important site for floating Ranunculus vegetation and as habitat for endagered Annex II Fish species.
