Other Site Characteristics

De Maten is characterised by a series of connected, shallow ponds created by damming and diking of three parallel brooklets. Ecotopes of ponds, pools, fens, reed-beds, alluvial forests and marshes occupy an important part of the area, in addition to heath and forest. Along the Stiemer, a Campine lowland river, wet to humid meadows and forbs are found.

4.2 Quality and importance

Very important and valuable site with many well conserved habitats. Several priority habitats. Habitat of Annex II Plant species.
