Other Site Characteristics

o Site regroupant plusieurs entités bien délimitées de la dépression de la Haine, toutes reconnues pour leur valeur biologique : marais de Harchies-Hensies-Pommeroeul, Prés de Gran Rieu ou Marais d'Hautrage, Les Marionville ou Marais de Douvrain, Erbisoeul, Thieu-Havré, Nimy/Obourg ou La Hainette et Ghlin. La plupart de ces zones marécageuses se sont formées suite à des effondrements miniers (zone de subsidence de la vallée de la Haine).

4.2 Quality and importance

o Très vaste et remarquable complexe de zones humides concentrées le long de la Haine : anciennes prairies humides inondées, moliniaies, mares, étangs, roselières, cariçaies, vasières, aulnaies, saulaies... ; o Présence de nombreuses espèces animales (intérêts entomologique et ornithologique exceptionnels) et végétales, rares, liées aux milieux hygrophiles.
