Other Site Characteristics

Massif forestier mélangé situé au sud de Paturages entre les communes de Dour, Blaugies et Sars-la-Bruyère ; Site comprenant des boisements humides de grand intérêt ; Grand intérêt géologique (côtoiement de calcaires du Viséen, de schistes et poudingues du Westphalien et de psammites du Gedinnien).

4.2 Quality and importance

Comme la plupart des zones forestières présentes dans cette partie du Hainaut, ce site présente un intérêt non négligeable pour l'établissement d'un réseau écologique cohérent dans cette région ; L'une des plus belles forêts wallonnes représentatives de l'Endymio-Carpinetum et réputée pour être la seule station belge de la plante Asarum europaeum (l'Asaret) ; Massif forestier de première importance pour des espèces aviennes telles le Pic noir et le Pic mar, surtout dans le contexte régional ; Présence du Martin-pêcheur sur les ruisseaux en périphérie du massif. Les mares forestières y abritent la salamandre et le crapaud accoucheur.
