Other Site Characteristics

o Important site de la basse vallée de la Vesdre, comportant notament les plus vastes sites calaminaire de Belgique (Fonds de Forêt) , produits de l'activité industrielle ;o Le site comprend quelques grotes et abris sous roche des vallées de la Magne et du Fonds de Forêt.

4.2 Quality and importance

o Présence d'un important site calaminaire résultant d'une pollution atmosphérique par les poussières métalliques de la production du zinc par les industries locales (depuis le 19ème siècle jusqu'au années '70) ;o Présence de la plus importante population d'Issoria lathonia de Wallonie dans les sites calaminaires, dépendant directement de la Pensée calaminaire (papillon menacé à l'échelon régional) ;o Présence de quelques sites à Triton crêté, très rare dans le sous-bassin de la Vesdre ; o Occupation hivernale dans les cavités souterraines par plusieurs chauves-souris dont Rhinolophus ferrumequinum et Myotis myotis; potentiel important pour la faune stygobie.
