Other Site Characteristics

Le site comprend d'une part, les coteaux de l'Amblève entre Sougné-Remouchamps et Pont de Scay et d'autre part, le lit mineur de la rivière entre Martinrive et Pont-de-Scay. Il se caractérise par la présence d'affleurements rocheux, calcaires et pasmmites, générant des milieux de grande qualité.

4.2 Quality and importance

L'intéressante végétation rivulaire, dont les forêts (91E0) bordant l'Amblève (3260), permet la nidification du martin pêcheur. Outre les eaux vives, le site accueille de remarquables sources pétrifiantes (7220), des plans d'eau à Chara spp. ou eutrophes (3140, 3150). Les coteaux rassemblent des habitats d'intérêt communautaire, certains prioritaires, forestiers ou ouverts. Ces derniers sont composés de communautés à espèces annuelles et succulentes des substrats rocheux (détritiques) thermophiles (6110), station de l'espèce endémique Sempervirens funckii var. aqualiense (joubarbe d'Aywaille), et de pelouses calcicoles et calcaréo-siliceuses (6210). Les milieux ouverts de ce site comprennent également des habitats rocheux, à savoir des éboulis siliceux (8150), des éboulis calcaires (8160), des pentes rocheuses calcaires et d'autres siliceuses, à végétation chasmophytique (8210, 8220). Le grand-duc niche dans les carrières abandonnées du site. Cette région fut connue pour avoir hébergé la première nidification de cette espèce en Wallonie, en 1982. Le faucon pèlerin est également observé régulièrement. Les habitats forestiers sont très présents dans tout le site. Le principal en terme de surface relève de la hêtraie calcicole médio-européenne du Cephalanthero-Fagion (9150), suivi de la hêtraie de l'Asperulo-Fagetum (9130) et des érablières de ravins calcicoles de grande valeur (9180). Le site offre des territoires de chasse privilégiés pour nombre d'espèces de chiroptères d'importance communautaire, dont Rhinolophus hipposideros et Rhinolophus ferrumequinum.
