Other Site Characteristics

Ce site est constitué du fond de vallée, des versants et carrières de l'Ourthe, ainsi que de vallons de ses affluents (Ruisseau de Renal, de la Hé d'Ourthe, de Boé) entre Hamoir et Comblain-au-Pont ; reprenant également le Bois de Comblain et de petits coteaux à La Rock, ainsi que la Sablière de Larbois. Ce site présente une grande variété d'habitats et d'espèces d'intérêt communautaire.

4.2 Quality and importance

En termes d'habitats forestiers, les versants boisés sont essentiellement occupés par des forêts indigènes du métaclimax des hêtraies calcicole, neutrophile et acidophile. Sur les pentes les plus abruptes et instables apparaissent des forêts de ravin, tandis que des forêts alluviales et des chênaies-frênaies humides occupent les fonds de vallée. Ces zones forestières contribuent à l'habitat de diverses espèces, parmi lesquelles les pics mar et noir, la bondrée apivore, le lucane cerf-volant et diverses espèces de chauves-souris. Les milieux rocheux englobent de leur côté des éboulis, des pelouses calcaires de grande valeur et des falaises, tandis que les grottes et cavités abritent de nombreuses chauves-souris d'intérêt communautaire. Parmi les autres milieux ouverts remarquables, on peut citer plusieurs prairies de fauche extensives ainsi que les landes de la sablière de Larbois. Au niveau des habitats aquatiques, l'Ourthe constitue par ailleurs un habitat favorable au martin-pêcheur, au chabot, à la bouvière, à la lamproie de Planer et à la mulette épaisse. Il convient enfin de mentionner les suintements calcaires pétrifiants parsemant le site.
