Other Site Characteristics

Ce site reprend des versants forestiers et des pelouses sur des substrats calcaires ou schisteux, en rive droite de l'Ourthe entre Barvaux et Bomal (notamment le Domaine de Hotemme et le Mont des Pins) ainsi que la plaine alluviale de l'Ourthe en amont de Bomal.

4.2 Quality and importance

Les versants et crêtes boisés sont ainsi dominés par des forêts du métaclimax des hêtraies neutrophile et calcicole. Elles sont localement associées à des forêts de ravin, habitats prioritaires, sur les sols les plus instables. Les fonds de vallée des petits ruisseaux et les terrasses alluviales de l'Ourthe permettent quant à eux l'apparition de chênaies-frênaies humides et de forêts alluviales. Ces milieux forestiers constituent tout ou une partie de l'habitat du pic mar, du pic noir, de la bondrée apivore et de chauves-souris d'intérêt communautaire. Le site est également remarquable pour ses milieux ouverts, puisqu'il contient des surfaces importantes de prairies de fauche peu intensives et de pelouses calcaires présentant une grande variété floristique. Enfin, le milieu aquatique, dont l'Ourthe est en elle-même un habitat d'intérêt communautaire, contribue entre autre à l'habitat du martin-pêcheur, de la mulette épaisse et du chabot.
