Other Site Characteristics
Le site est constitué d'un complexe forestier ardennais diversifié, abritant des zones ouvertes de très grand intérêt, en particulier au niveau des aérodromes civil et militaire, ainsi que dans les zones humides restauréess par un projet Life. Le site est en continuité avec celui de la Haute Wamme et Masblette situé au nord-ouest. |
4.2 Quality and importance
Les zones forestières feuillues sont dominées par la hêtraie et la chênaie à luzule, mais on y retrouve également des chênaies-boulaies à molinie, des boulaies tourbeuses, des aulnaies… Il comporte en outre de nombreuses zones ouvertes occupées par des landes humides, des landes sèches, ainsi que des tourbières hautes actives et dégradées. On retrouve au niveau des aérodromes des prairies maigres ainsi que des zones de nardaie, habitat prioritaire devenu très rare dans cette région. D'un point de vue ornithologique, ce site abrite des espèces d'intérêt communautaire typiques des grands massifs forestiers telles ques les pics mar et noir, la cigogne noire, la chouette de Tengmalm et la bondrée apivore. On peut également relever la présence d'espèces plus typiques des milieux ouverts comme les pies-grièches noire et écorcheur ou l'alouette lulu. De par sa situation géographique centrale en Wallonie, le massif est essentiel à la cohérence du Réseau Natura 2000 pour les habitats naturels ardennais et leurs espèces associées. Le site contribue également à l'habitat de l'engoulevent d'europe, du chabot et du cuivré de la bistorte. |
