4.2 Quality and importance

Ce vaste site centré sur la deuxième cuesta, entre les vallées du Ton et de la Vire, de Bleid à Battincourt comprend le massif du bois de Willancourt, essentiellement composé de hêtraies neutrophiles, ainsi que le bois de Battincourt et les bois de Saint Léger à Ethe au sud du Ton. La majeure partie du site est agricole, avec comme principal élément remarquable les paysagers bocagers encore très bien conservés de Mussy à Willancourt. On y rencontre d'importantes surfaces de pré maigres de fauche (6510) ainsi qu'une importante population de pie-grièche écorcheur, estimée à 50-80 couples. Les milans royaux et noirs, la bondrée apivore ainsi que une petite population hivernante de bécassines des marais viennent compléter ce tableau bocager. En forêt les populations de pic mar sont également conséquentes avec 60 à 80 couples, ainsi que 2 à 3 couples de pic noir. Sur la Vire et le Ton, une petite population de martin-pêcheur, estimée à 3 à 5 couples.
