Other Site Characteristics

o Vaste complexe de mares issues d'une ancienne exploitation minière, aux environs immédiats de Fraire (lieux-dits "Les Minières", "Les Alloux", "Les Bayaux" et "Monlaiti"), les unes en milieu agricole, les autres en forêt ;o Chaque plan d'eau est accompagné d'une végétation rivulaire plutôt eutrophe, mais dans la plupart des cas bien structurée.

4.2 Quality and importance

Le site est un vaste complexe de mares issues d'anciennes exploitations minières, aux environs immédiats de Fraire (lieux-dits "Les Minières", "Les Alloux", "Taille devant les Vivis" et "Monlaiti"), les unes en milieu agricole, les autres en forêt. Certaines mares sont temporaires, d'autres sont permanentes. Les plans d'eau permanents sont souvent accompagnés d'une végétation mésotrophe à eutrophe d'intérêt communautaire (3130 et 3150). Ce complexe de mares est essentiel pour le triton crêté, espèce d'intérêt communautaire, formant là une population importante bien connue du sous-bassin de la Sambre. Le vallon où coule le Ruisseau de Fairoul (3260) est en partie bordé de hêtraies neutrophiles (9130).
