Other Site Characteristics

The SCI includes the Skrino Gorge of the Struma River between Konyavska and Osogovska Mountains and the valley of the Frolosh River. The Skrino Gorge is proposed as a protected area.

4.2 Quality and importance

The SCI is southern limit of distribution of habitat 91H0 and possibly northern limit of distribution of Testudo graeca (viabe populations with low density) in Western Bulgaria. The Skrino Gorge protects representative riparian habitats. The SCI is a stepping-stone biocorridor for protected fish and bat species.
