161.33 ha großes Meeresgebiet westl. d. S-H Wattenmeeres, angrenzend an d. Nationalpark (SPA 0916-491) u. seewärts soweit die Landeszuständigkeit reicht (12 sm-Grenze). Überwiegend flacher als 20 m. Besonderer Nahrungsreichtum.

Sehr bed. Überwinterungsgeb. für Stern- und Prachttaucher d. Westpaläarktis. Bed. Mauser- u. Rastgebiet der Trauerente. Nahrungsgebiet f. Brutvögel d. Helgoländer Seevogelfelsens. Eines d. bed. Geb. für See- und Küstenvögel d. ges. Nordsee.
