Repräsentativer Feuchtgebietskomplex der oberen Notteniederung mit reichem Wechsel von Rieden, Feuchtwiesen, Naß- und Feuchtwäldern sowie ausgedehnte Seenverlandungszonen.

Besonders repräsentative, z. T. für den Erhalt vom Aussterben bedrohter Artenspektren und Einzelarten bedeutsame Vorkommen von Lebensraumtypen u. Arten der Anh. I u. II der FFH RL, insbes. Pfeifengraswiesen, Kalkniedermoore und Salzstellen. Mehrfaches Auftreten salzhaltigen Grundwassers.
