Ehem. Tagebergbaugebiet, das zahlreiche Seen und Teiche aufweist. Im Norden dominieren artenreiche Gebüsche mit Magerrasen und Saumfragmenten. Im Süden überwiegend Laubwälder.

Aufgrund des kleinräumigen Wechsels von Standortbedingungen, Nährstoffverhältnissen, Wasserversorgung, Topographie vielfältige Lebensraumbedingungen für den Kammmolch. ehem. Bergbau: Eisen- und Manganerzlager, sowie Vorkommen von Massenkalk, Ostracoden- und Orthocerenkalk, Dalmaniten-Sandstein
