Other Site Characteristics

Området omfatter Råbjerg Mose, Tolshave Mose og Kragskov- og Jerup heder, samt tilgrænsende arealer, som har betydning som levested for hedepletvingen. Naturtyperne er opstået på hævet havbund med velbevarede systemer af rimmer og dobber, af henholdsvis flyvesand og ferskvandsaflejringer. På rimmerne ses dværgbuskvegetation, og i de fugtige dobber finder man fattigkærsamfund. Der ses en del forskellige naturtyper: hede , fattigkær, nåleskov mm.. I store dele af moserne har der været gravet tørv, hvilket har resulteret i fugtige lavninger med bla. sphagnum. Området er under generel tilgroning med bla. bjergfyr (Pinus mugo) og birk (Betula sp.) og uden pleje. De fugtige områder kan tørre ud i perioder og en vandstandshævning ved fældning af træer eller tilstopning af grøfter ville gavne fugtigbundssamfundene.

4.2 Quality and importance

Råbjerg Mose er en lokalitet af meget stor botanisk betydning pga. dens meget veludviklede fattigkær og forekomst af rødlistearter. Derudover er naturtypen "skovbevoksede tørvemoser" en prioriteret naturtype og en af ti lokaliteter for sommerfuglen Hedepletvinge (Euphydryas aurinia).
