Other Site Characteristics

Llanuras, colinas suaves y cárcavas en yesos entre la Sierra de Alcubierre y el Río Ebro, incluyendo la plataforma estructural que se situa al NW. de la Val de Gelsa. Dominan las litologías de yesos, con limos y arcillas. Vegetación subestépica con comunidades gipsófilas, romerales y matorrales halonitrófilos. dominancia de cultivos de cereal de secano en las zonas llanas y en las vales (valles de fondo plano). Presencia de enclaves con Sabina Albar, relictícos. Balsas y bebederos de ganado y construcciones humanas dispersas de importancia para la avifauna. Presencia de infraestructuras lineales (carreteras, autopista, gaseoducto subterráneo) y líneas de alta tensión.

4.2 Quality and importance

Area de gran importancia para las aves esteparias, en especial Ganga Común, Alondra de Dupont, Terrera Común y Terrera Marismeña. Area de cría de Avutarda y Cernícalo Primilla, esta última especie en expansión como nidificante en este territorio. Presencia de plantas e invertebrados así como de asociaciones fitosociológicas de gran interés ecológico y científico, con abundancia de endemismos. Posiblemente una de las estepas sobre yesos más extensas de Europa.
