Other Site Characteristics

Zona costera del NW de la isla de Ibiza, con acantilados rocosos y pequeños islotes (ses Margalidas y la Illa Murada). Las rocas calcáreas del Secundario y del terciario preorogénico forman acantilados importantes a lo largo de toda la costa, que tiene un trazado muy recortado, con numerosas calas y promontorios. La costa es casi toda inaccesible desde tierra salvo en unos pocos puntos, donde existen pequeños embarcaderos empleados tradicionalemente por los pescadores.

4.2 Quality and importance

En la zona se encuentra una de las colonias más importantes de Halcón de Eleonor, además de otras especies de aves del Anexo I de la Directiva 79/409/CEE. Las islas Margalidas albergan colonias notables de aves marinas como el Paíño y, además es la única localidad donde crece Euphorbia margalidiana, especie citada en el Anexo II de la Directiva 92/43/CEE. Es una de las zonas florísticamente más interesantes de las Pitiusas. Además de la presencia de Euphorbia margalidiana, Silene hifacensis y Diplotaxis ibicensis, especies del Anexo II de la Directiva Hábitats, también se encuentran Saxifraga corsica, Asperula paui, Avenula crassifolia, Thymus richardii ebusitanus, Teucrium cossoni punicum, Stachys brachyclada, Silene cambesedessi y otras especies endémicas y de distribución restringida
