Other Site Characteristics

Ambos embalses están localizados en zonas ligeramente deprimidas dentro de su entorno geológico de edad miocena, constituido fundamentalmente por areniscas y margas. Los materiales geológicos, dispuestos horizontalemente, son atravesados por una red fluvial poco enérgica pero cuya capacidad erosiva se ve favorecida por la existencia de materiales de edad reciente y poco resistentes a la erosión. Las márgenes derecha e izquierda del tramo bajo del río Cinca presentan esras mismas características geomorfológicas.

4.2 Quality and importance

Conjuntos de embalses de riego de pequeñas dimensiones constituidos por los Embalses del Pas y Santa Rita. Balsa de Rafales en las cercanías. Escasa orla de vegetación helofítica, con masa de tamarizales en algunos sectores. Interesante colonia de ardéidas instalada años atrás y actualmente en incremento, constituida por Bubulcus ibis, pero con presencia de Egreta garzetta y siendo además una zona de nidificación bastante regular de Ardeola ralloides. Unica población comprobada para Aragón de Lanius minor, que ocupa zonas arboladas inmediatas. La comunidad de anátidas está dominada por Anas platyrhynchos, con varios miles de ejmplares en invierno, y presencia minoritaria de otras especies.
