Other Site Characteristics

ZEPA situada en el centro de la provincia de Cáceres, sobre la comarca de Trujillo. Este espacio cuenta con grandes extensiones de llanos al este de Santa Marta de Magasca. El espacio cuenta con varios cursos de agua, como el río Magasca y el Magasquilla. Los límites de esta ZEPA se encuentran situados sobre los términos de La Cumbre, Santa Marta de Magasca, Trujillo y Aldea del Obispo.El paisaje está conformado principalmente por grandes extensiones de praderías, pastizales secos, dehesas y escobonares. La estacionalidad se acusa fuertemente en este enclave, mostrando durante la época estival una gran carencia de agua, excepto en puntos muy concretos que ejercen un gran poder de atracción para la fauna.

4.2 Quality and importance

Un total de 8 elementos referidos en la Directiva Hábitat se encuentran representados en dicho enclave. De ellos 4 son hábitat y 4 se corresponden con taxones del Anexo II. El paisaje se encuentra representado por grandes extensiones subestépicas de gramíneas rodeadas por dehesas de Quercus y de algunas etapas seriales como retamales, presentándose típica vegetación de ribera en los cursos de agua. Presencia en reptiles de galápago leproso (Mauremys leprosa). En peces, aparecen los taxones pardilla (Rutilus lemmingii), calandino (Rutilus alburnoides) y colmilleja (Cobitis taenia). En este mismo enclave se encuentran un total de 14 especies incluidas en el Anexo I de la citada Directiva, destacando la comunidad de aves esteparias: avutarda (Otis tarda), sisón (Tetrax tetrax), ganga (Pterocles alchata), ortega (Pterocles orientalis), alcaraván (Burhinus oedicnemus) y aguilucho cenizo (Circus pygargus), junto con rapaces comoalimoche (Neophron percnopterus), águila real (Aquila chrysaetos) o águila culebrera (Circaetus gallicus). También aparece en reproducción la cigüeña negra (Ciconia nigra), especie en peligro de extinción.
