Other Site Characteristics

Humedal costero de carácter estuarino (Ría de Ortigueira) que incluye extensas llanuras intermareales fango-arenosas, amplias marismas y un considerable sistema dunar. Zosteretum noltii; Spartinetum maritimae; Agrostio stoloniferae-Juncetum maritimi. Es destacable la comunidad de terófitos suculentos de Puccinellio maritimae-Salicornietum ramosissimae.

4.2 Quality and importance

Ría de Ortigueira: tramo interno de ría que incluye buenas representaciones de praderas de Zostera noltii y Zostera marina, notables extensiones de Scirpus holoshoenus y sistema dunar en muy buen estado de conservación. Alberga más de 5000 aves acuáticas invernantes (3000 anátidas y 2000 limícolas). Notable población invernante de Zarapito Real (Numenius arquata), que con >500 individuos se sitúa como la principal localidad de invernada del noroeste peninsular. Río Mera: discreto curso fluvial con bosque de ribera en muy buen estado de conservación. Hay que destacar la presencia de Salmón Atlántico (Salmo salar).
