Other Site Characteristics

Valle abrupto de naturaleza caliza cubierto mayoritariamente por matorral y bosque mediterráneo. Las aguas del río Sil se encuentran en este tramo retenidas por el embalse de Penarrubia.

4.2 Quality and importance

Área de especial interés para las aves rapaces, entre las que destaca la presencia de una pareja de Águila Real (Aquila chrysaetos), así como la presencia hasta tiempos recientes de una pareja de Alimoche Común (Neophron percnopterus). En este espacio se localiza la única población gallega conocida de Picogordo (Coccothraustes coccothraustes).
