Other Site Characteristics

Espacio comprendido entre las regiones biogeográficas Alpina y Mediterránea (83 y 17 % respectivamente). LIC de gran diversidad paisajística localizado en la cuenca alta del río Oliván en la margen izquierda del río Gállego y en el interfluvio Gállego-Ara. Se sitúa sobre materiales del flysh y rocas detríticas eoceno-oligocenas, que en la parte meridional pasan a ser conglomerados oligocenos. Los estratos alternantes de margas, calizas y areniscas de escaso grosor y muy deformados, propios del flysch, el carácter submediterráneo de este sector y los usos y apovechamientos agropecuarios tradicionales, explican la importante incidencia de los procesos de pérdida de suelo. La vegetación dominante esta formado por matorrales mixtos compuesto por Buxus sempervirens y Echinospartum horridum y Pinares de Pinus sylvestris (naturales y repoblados). En las zonas mejor expuestas aparecen pequeñas manchas de Fagus sylvatica.

4.2 Quality and importance

Zona de contrastes entre espacios alpinos y espacios mediterraneos según la orientación y altura. Destaca la importancia de bosquetes de hayas en las laderas septentrionales y la presencia de una rica avifauna con especies significativas como Quebrantahuesos, Culebrera Europea, Abejero Europeo, Águila Real y Pito Negro.
