Other Site Characteristics

Espacio comprendido entre las regiones biogeográficas Alpina y Mediterránea (42 y 58 % respectivamente). La zona se enmarca en las sierras del flysh con importantes extensiones de depósitos cuaternarios (glacis pleistocenos). Dominio de áreas repobladas con Pinus nigra y Pinus halepensis poco integradas en el medio y otros sectores con bosques mixtos de Quercus grupo faginea y coníferas de repoblación. En las zonas más degradadas de la parte oriental aparecen formaciones arbustivas de carácter mediterráneo dominadas por Juniperus oxycedrus y Juniperus phoenicea. Se trata de ambientes sujetos a intensos procesos erosivos donde son frecuentes los desiertos de erosión.

Zona de especial relevancia para la conservación de los pinares mediterráneos y submediterráneos de Pinos negrales mediterraneos. Detacan igualmente los quejigales del grupo Faginea.
