Other Site Characteristics

Este LIC integra el tramo bajo del río Veral hasta su desembocadura con el río Aragón. Es un espacio que une el LIC de la Foz de Binies y el LIC del Río Aragón-Canal de Berdún y actúa como un corredor biológico que permite la libre dispersión de la fauna y flora ligada a este ámbito. Este curso fluvial está sometido a frecuentes fluctuaciones de caudal debido a una gran irregularidad hídrica. Este hecho, unido al importante aporte de material aluvial de la parte septentrional, condiciona la inestabilidad de las acumulaciones de gravas en el cauce, lo que da lugar a una fisionomía de canales braided entrelazados con múltiples formas de acumulación fluvial como barras centrales y laterales, flechas, etc. La vegetación de ribera coloniza parcialmente estas barras dando lugar a un mosaico irregular de soto mixto arbustivo con pastizales higrófilos, en el que destacan las formaciones de Salix eleagnos. Puntualmente aparecen bosques galería de Salix alba y Populus alba.

4.2 Quality and importance

Curso fluvial pirenaico con características de río alpino y mediterráneo. Actúa como corredor fluvial entre las sierras del norte y la Canal de Berdún con importantes comunidades de ribera, principalmente saucedas arbustivas y una rica fauna asociada a los cursos fluviales.
