Other Site Characteristics

Tramo fluvial de régimen fundamentalmente pluvial, que sufre importantes estiajes durante el verano sin llegar interrumpirse el flujo de agua. Circula en dirección E-W por la Val Ancha horadando las margas azules eocenas de la Depresión Media Pirenaica hasta su desembocadura en el río Aragón, del que es afluente por su margen izquierda. Destaca la buena conservación de sus márgenes con formaciones de ribera maduras dominadas por Populus nigra, Populus alba, Salix alba y formaciones arbustivas del género Salix principalmente Salix eleagnos. Puntualmente, las zonas de acumulación de sedimentos son colonizadas por especies del género Juncus y Pragmites. En torno al río encontramos orlas de fresnos y quejigos. El carácter meandriforme de este río contribuye a la excavación de pozas en las margas eocenas favoreciendo la presencia de siete especies de peces autóctonas. Se ha detectado la presencia de Lutra lutra. La calidad de las aguas es buena.

4.2 Quality and importance

Corredor fluvial sito en la Depresión Media Pirenaica con sotos y formaciones de ribera bien conservadas. La buena calidad de las aguas favorece la presencia de una abundante fauna piscícola y se ha detectado la presencia de Nutria.
