Other Site Characteristics

Este LIC recoge todo el tramo fluvial del río Guarga, entre Guillué y el embalse de Javierrelatre. Discurre en dirección E-W en el marco de las sierras prepirenaicas, concretamente entre las sierras de Belarre y Aineto al Sur y la sierra de Portiello al Norte, siendo tributario por la margen izquierda del río Gállego. El régimen hidrológico es de tipo pluvial presentando máximos caudales primaverales y mínimos estivales. Destaca la buena conservación de sus márgenes con formaciones de ribera dominadas por Populus nigra y, Salix alba y dominando las formaciones arbustivas del género Salix principalmente Salix eleagnos. Destacan la formación de importantes acumulaciones de gravas a lo largo del cauce, muy inestables, donde se instalan comunidades riparias arbustivas. El río presenta un estado de conservación bueno, con algunos cultivos en zonas próximas al cauce. Los usos turístico-recreativos y las extracciones de gravas son las principales actuaciones sobre el cauce.

Destacan las formaciones de ribera maduras en algunos sectores con una gran diversidad especifica y que actúan como refugio de la flora y fauna. La calidad de las aguas contribuye a la riqueza piscícola de este río.
