Other Site Characteristics

Espacio ubicado en las sierras del Flysch, formadas por materiales eocenos, predominando la alternancia en estratos finos de margas, areniscas y arcillas muy deformados por la tectónica alpina y sobre los que se ha producido una profunda erosión diferencial dejando resaltados los estratos de arenisca calcárea, más duros que las margas y arcillas. La zona limita al norte con el río Ara incluyendo parte de las terrazas fluviales y depósitos cuaternarios situados en el fondo del valle. Existe un predominio de las formaciones boscosas densas con Pinus sylvestris. En algunos sectores encontramos quejigales del grupo faginea y Quercus rotundifolia en la parte septentrional, coincidiendo con las zonas más deprimidas próximas al fondo del valle del Ara.

4.2 Quality and importance

Este espacio engloba el anticlinal de Boltaña, incluyendo la derecha orográfica de los Estrechos de Jánovas, con interesantes estratos verticales aflorantes: las "costillas". En esta zona destacan formaciones vegetales rupícolas y termófilas, y algunas especies propias de ambientes cálidos y húmedos se localizan en las umbrías. En las solanas se ubican extensos carrascales. Destacan las cuevas de Seso, interesante formación geológica e importante refugio de murciélagos.
