Other Site Characteristics

Espacio singular y de gran complejidad geológico-estructural, ubicado en el somontano oriental, al sur de las sierras exteriores prepirenaicas. En este sector del somontano desde el interfluvio Alcanadre-Vero hasta el río Noguera Ribagorzana, interrumpiéndose entre Monzón y Barbastro por la acción erosiva del río Cinca, se extiende la alineación montañosa conocida como el anticlinal de Barbastro. En este sector las areniscas y depósitos de borde de cuenca, ven rota su continuidad por esta extensión de yesos oligocenos, con intercalaciones de margas y areniscas, que plegados positivamente se extienden de Noroeste a Sureste paralelos a otros apuntamientos diapíricos de yesos triásicos que asoman puntualmente. La especial litotología estos afloramientos condiciona las formaciones vegetales predominantes. Domina un mosaico dendriforme de cultivos y matorrales mixtos gipsófilos, con presencia de Ononis tridentata, Gypsophila hispanica, Heliantemun squamatum entre otras. En la zona oriental junto al matorral gipsófilo encontramos romerales y coscojares mixtos con Juniperus sp. y algunos encinares.

Zona de especial relevancia por las formaciones gipsícolas que ocupan amplias superficies, combinadas en algunos sectores con encinares y matorrales termomediterraneos.
