Other Site Characteristics

Foco endorreico situado entre la Sierra de Sigena y el río Alcanadre en su tramo terminal, al oeste del núcleo de Ballobar. Se corresponde litológicamente con las series neógenas, horizontales o suavemente plegadas, manifestadas en la topografía groseramente plana. Las lagunas están ubicadas en una amplia charnela sinclinal que desvirtúa la primitiva estructuralidad de las plataformas margo-yeso-calcáreas de los Monegros. Su origen se debe a la confluencia de diversos factores: topográficos (planitud del espacio que dificulta la escorrentía); erosivos (erosión diferencial en el contacto de diferentes litologías, acción eólica, disolución de los materiales terciarios); climáticos (escasa precipitación que no favorece la formación de cursos que drenen). Hay que destacar la presencia de vegetación halófila de gran interés formando orlas concéntricas en torno a las lagunas: matorrales halófilos y halo-nitrófilos, pastos salinos. Los cultivos rodean la laguna y el pastoreo de los pastizales son los principales usos de este espacio.

4.2 Quality and importance

Lagunas de origen endorreico de gran interés por la vegetación halófila (pastizales, juncales y matorrales) que rodean la laguna temporal. En periodos temporales de aguas aparecen especies de gran interés como Myosurus minimus o Marsilea strigosa. Este espacio se constituye igualmente como un lugar de gran interés para las aves esteparias, destacando Falco naumanni, Pterocles orientales y Pterocles alchata entre otras.
