4.1 General site character

Other Site Characteristics

Situados en la unidad geomorfoestructural denominada Pirineo Axial, de edad paleozoica, constituyen un complejo de cubetas de sobreexcavación y zonas groseramente planas previas a los umbrales glaciares, donde se han depositado sedimentos de diferente procedencia y naturaleza. La turbera más occidental se sitúa en torno al barranco de Albás, afluente del barranco de Pondiellos, que desemboca en Sallént de Gállego. Está a una altura de 2192 metros sobre el nivel del mar y está abierta al noroeste, conformando un espacio ligeramente plano, fruto del arrasamiento del glaciar que conformó aguas arriba el ibón de Albás. El paisaje geomorfológico está dominado por formas de acumulación de origen glaciar y periglaciar, siendo visibles en algunos sectores procesos solifluidales y vertientes en terracitas. La turbera oriental, situada en el municipio de Panticosa, se sitúa en la cabecera del barranco de Ordicuso, a una altitud de 2128 metros en su parte central y abierta al noreste, hacia donde discurre el barranco antes de descender al circo glaciar de Panticosa. Como en el caso anterior, el glaciarismo y posteriormente los procesos periglaciares han conformado el paisaje actual, siendo visibles los efectos abrasivos y modeladores de la acción glaciar, que configuran la planitud de la zona, y las acumulaciones de morrenas tras la retirada de los mismos. Los procesos periglaciares son también visibles en las laderas y zonas bajas apreciándose procesos gelisolifluidales.

4.2 Quality and importance

Dos unidades de vegetación aisladas entre sí, separadas en altitud desde los 1900 hasta 2400 metros; y en valles diferenciados, el de Caldarés en Panticosa y Pondiellos en Sallent de Gallego. Situados ambos en la umbría mantienen una humedad muy alta incluso durante el fuerte verano. Estas turberas se desarrollan sobre sustratos cuyo componente está ligeramente enmascarado por otras formaciones de carácter silicícola de pizarras y areniscas, lo que las convierte en representantes de enorme interés por su contribución a la variabilidad del grupo de hábitats 7230.
