Other Site Characteristics

Espacio formado por dos unidades muy cercanas entre si, separadas por la carretera N-234 que aprovecha una discontinuidad en los relieves estructurales excavada por la red fluvial. Estos espacios se sitúan en torno a los 1300-1400metros de altura, y constituyen una extensa superficie groseramente horizontal que comunica el LIC de Javalambre y el LIC de la Sierra de Gúdar. Afloran los materiales del Mesozoicos, con predominio de las formaciones carbonatadas completamente arrasadas y aplanadas a finales del terciario, formando parte de la superficie de erosión fundamental, con retazos de otras superficies de erosión pliocuaternarias. El paisaje vegetal está constituido principalemente por sabinares y enebrales. Frecuentemente en formaciones mixtas con otras especies como Quercus rotundifolia y Quercus faginea. Las zonas húmedas ligadas a barrancos posibilitan la presencia de Acer monspessulanum con Sabinas. En otros sectores más degradados dominan las garrigas mixtas con Erinacia anthyllis, tomillares y enebros y sabinas dispersos. Es frecuente encontrar junto a bosques de Pinus nigra naturales repoblaciones forestales. Los usos agropecuarios se ven limitados al ganado ovino en los pastos secos y matorrales.

4.2 Quality and importance

Este espacio destaca por la buena conservación y extensión de los sabinares de Juniperus thurifera. Junto a las sabinas son frecuentes los bosques de quercineas mixtos con sabina. En las zonas húmedas encontramos quejigales con algunos rodales de Acer mospessulanum.
