Macizo calcáreo triásico-jurásico con abundante componente tectónico manifestado por diversos sistemas de fracturas, fallas y diaclasas. El relieve ha sido retocado por agentes geológicos como periglaciarismo, canchales, gelifractos y modelado kárstico.

4.2 Quality and importance

Lugar de gran riqueza faunística y elevado interés botánico por su enorme valor ecológico y biogeográfico. Incluye el taxón Sideritis javalambrensis (Anexo II D 92/43/CEE) y otros endemismos de gran interés.
