Other Site Characteristics

Espacio ubicado en el valle del río Alfambra dentro de la unidad morfoestructural denominada Depresión de Alfambra-Teruel. El relleno de esta zona es fundamentalmente neógeno, siendo característicos los rápidos cámbios laterales de facies existentes entre las formaciones detríticas y evaporíticas. Fuera de las acumulaciones yesíferas, se diferencian el resto de los depósitos detríticos de tonos pardo-rojizos, coronados en este caso, en la parte oriental del LIC, por plataformas estructurales mesozoicas arrasadas, formando parte de la superficie de erosión fundamental. Los depósitos cuaternarios distribuidos en diferentes niveles de glacis escalonados y terrazas del Alfambra, están profundamente diseccionados por la densa red de ramblas y barrancos de incisión lineal. Coincidiendo con los afloramientos de yesos se manifiestan los procesos de disolución con la generación de dolinas en embudo y colapsos rellenos por gravas aluviales de las terrazas del Alfambra. El paisaje vegetal está formado por bosques de Quercus rotundifolia en buen estado de conservación y mezclados en algunos sectores con quejigales y sabinares de Juniperus phoenicea. Coincidiendo con los afloramientos yesíferos aparecen formaciones arbustivas con Gypsophila hispanica, Ononis tridentata y Rosmarinus officinalis. En otros sectores el matorral está degradado con predominio del tomillar y aliagar. Las actividades agrícolas y ganaderas son las principales socioeconómicas de la zona.

Espacio de gran interés por las comunidades de matorral asociados a medios yesíferos. Destacan las formaciones de Juniperus thurifera, Quercus rotundifolia y Quercus faginea en las zonas más húmedas.
