Other Site Characteristics

Este espacio está limitado al oeste por el río Turia, y se ubica en una zona formada por retazos de plataformas tabulares de naturaleza carbonatada profundamente diseccionadas por el dispositivo de cárcavas y barrancos de incisión lineal que erosionan de forma diferencial los estratos más deleznables. Algunas de estas formaciones detríticas terciarias se corresponden con la zona central del cambio lateral de facies, dispositivo sedimentario típico de las cuencas terciarias, que da lugar a la aparición de estratos de yesos en este sector. Las zonas más elevadas, coincidentes con las muelas, se sitúan a una altura en torno a los 1100 metros y descienden progresivamente hacia el Turia a través de depósitos de ladera y glacis. La regularización de las laderas a partir del escarpe de los relieves tabulares está condicionada por el dispositivo lineal de barrancos con una alta capacidad erosiva sobre los materiales arcillosos. La aparición de estratos de yesos terciarios condiciona la presencia de formaciones de matorral gipsófilo de gran interés. En otros sectores de naturaleza carbonatada dominan un mosaico de romeral, que en ocasiones se mezclan con sabinares de Juniperus thurifera, tomillar y campos de cultivo de secano. Las actividades agropecuarias se centran en el cultivo de cereal y en el pastoreo extensivo sobre los pastizales secos y matorrales esclerófilos.

Importantes comunidades de matorral gipsófilo. Destaca igualmente la presencia de sabinares de Juniperus thurifera dispersos y mezclados con romerales.
