Other Site Characteristics

Depresiones endorreicas que contienen aguas salinas. Son resultado de la erosión diferencial de materiales geológicos de distinta resistencia: paleocanales de areniscas cementados en un conjunto de materiales blandos (limos y arcillas). más erosionables. Las lagunas están conectadas a un sistema acuífero que las alimenta. La Salada Grande es la laguna salada más grande y profunda de la Península Ibérica (hasta 5,6 m).

4.2 Quality and importance

La Salada de Chiprana es única en Europa Occidental por sus características físico-químicas (es un lago salino continental permanente). Única cita peninsular de Clypeola cyclodontea. Único hábitat continental de Ruppia maritima en la Península. Presencia de tapetes microbianos de fondo de gran interés microbiológico. Zona Húmeda de Importancia Internacional (Convenio RAMSAR)
