Other Site Characteristics

Espacio ubicado en la margen izquierda del Ebro, en el centro de la depresión, entre los núcleos de población de Alfajarín y Osera. La zona más elevada presenta una altitud en torno a los 330m. Destacan las formaciones evaporíticas del sector central de la cubeta del Ebro y los depósitos cuaternarios. Las formas de relieve dominantes se relacionan con una extensa red dendrítica de sistemas de barrancos de incisión lineal y vales de fondo planos con acumulaciones de limos yesíferos holocenos, resultado de un proceso semiartificial de aprovechamiento agrícola tradicional. La zona más oriental está cubierta por importantes sistemas de glacis y terrazas pleistocenas y holocenas. Puntualmente encontramos focos endorreicos con acumulaciones salinas. A lo largo de todo el sector meridional del LIC aparece un escarpe de yesos elaborado por la erosión basal del río Ebro, que presenta acumulaciones de derrubios en su base por desprendimientos que dan cabida a un importante número de singularidades florísticas. Las comunidades vegetales que mayor representación espacial tienen son los matorrales gipsícolas presididos por Ononis tridentata, Gypsophila hispanica, Heliantemun squamatum, etc. En las vales de fondo plano encontramos tamarizales aislados dispuestos a lo largo de los barrancos. En algunos sectores de la zona más oriental se identifican rodales de Pinus halepensis abiertos con matorrales esclerófilos. Los principales usos son los agrarios y ganaderos. El espacio también tiene un aprovechamiento cinegético.

Espacio de gran relevancia por las comunidades gipsícolas ligadas a los afloramientos de yesos. Destacan igualmente las comunidades rupícolas presentes en los farallones y la fauna asociada a los cortados.
