Other Site Characteristics

Espacio ubicado en la margen derecha del río Ebro, en el centro de la depresión, entre los núcleos de población de Alberite de San Juán y Pozuelo de Aragón. La zona más elevada presenta una altitud supera los 400m. Destacan las formaciones evaporíticas del sector central de la cubeta del Ebro y los depósitos cuaternarios. Las formas de relieve dominantes se relacionan con una extensa red dentrítica de sistemas de barrancos de incisión lineal y vales de fondo planos con acumulaciones de limos yesíferos holocenos, resultado de un proceso semiartificial de aprovechamiento agrícola tradicional. La zona más meridional y noroccidental está cubierta por sistemas de glacis pleistocenos y holocenos. En la zona nororiental, en contacto con el futuro embalse de La Loteta, se sitúa un foco endorreico de gran interés con acumulaciones salinas y zonas de matorrales halófilos y halonitrófilos. Las comunidades vegetales que mayor representación espacial tienen son los matorrales gipsícolas presididos por Ononis tridentata, Gypsophila hispanica, Heliantemun squamatum, etc. En algunos sectores de la zona más elevada dominan los matorrales esclerófilos mediterráneo con Juniperus phoenicea y algún coscojar. Los principales usos son los ganaderos y en las zonas más bajas la agricultura extensiva de cereal.

4.2 Quality and importance

Espacio que posee una de las mejores representaciones de formaciones vegetales gipsícolas y halófilas del Valle del Ebro. Junto a ellas hay que destacar los matorrales arborescentes de Juniperus phoenicea.
