Other Site Characteristics

Pequeño espacio situado en el piedemonte del Moncayo. Los depósitos terciarios de ladera que conforman el sustrato predominante son cantos angulosos de naturaleza predominantemente silícea provenientes del núcleo paleozoico del Moncayo que se entremezclan en sectores más bajos con depósitos de ladera de naturaleza carbonatada provenientes de retazos de cuestas calcáreas. Dentro del piso mesomediterráneo, destaca la presencia de un interesente encinar de Quercus rotundifolia con un rico sotobosque. En las zonas más húmedas de las laderas aparecen algunos quejigos. Junto a la superficie de bosque encontramos manchas de cervo-timo-aliagar con evidencias de pastoreo y en los sectores más bajos, próximos a los núcleos de población el encinar es sustituido por un coscojar denso con pies aislados de Quercus rotundifolia.

4.2 Quality and importance

Importante encinar silicícola que está situado muy próximo al LIC del Parque Natural del Moncayo. La elevada naturalidad del bosque y la utilización de este por numerosas aves rapaces hacen de este enclave una zona forestal singular de gran diversidad y riqueza.
