Other Site Characteristics

Cursos fluviales que enlazan el límite meridional de la Sierra de los Canalizos con la zona del Valle de Alcudia. En cuanto a la litología, las rocas pertenecen, por un lado, al final de la Era Arcaica o Precámbrico superior (pizarras, areniscas y conglomerados que aparecen en el fondo de los ríos, al aflorar estos materiales por efecto de la erosión fluvial y, por otro, al Paleozoico (cuarcitas armoricanas del tramo inferior del Ordovícico), en las crestas de las laderas que cierran los valles fluviales. En cuanto a la litología, las rocas pertenecen, por un lado, al final de la era Arcaica o Precámbrico superior (pizarras, areniscas y conglomerados) y al comienzo de la era Primaria o Paleozoico (cuarcita armoricana del tramo inferior del Ordovícico, que es la roca en que se labran las crestas más abruptas, y una serie pizarrosa con intercalaciones de bancos areniscosos, perteneciente al Ordovícico medio y superior).

4.2 Quality and importance

La zona comprende el Río Valdeazogues desde su cabecera y sus afluentes, los Ríos Quejigal y Fresnedillas, así como el Río Alcudia, desde su nacimiento donde toma el nombre de Río de Cabra. Estos ríos albergan una ictiofauna de enorme interés, con poblaciones bien conservadas de Jarabugo, Calandino, Boga de río, Pardilla, Barbo comiza y Blenio, entre otras especies de ciprínidos, así como importantes poblaciones de Nutria y Tritón verdinegro. Por otro lado, estos cauces fluviales sustentan valiosas formaciones vegetales riparias (fresnedas, saucedas, adelfares, tamujares, juncales, etc.), constituyendo el territorio de nidificación y alimentación de la Cigüeña negra, así como importantes azonas de concentración premigratoria de esta especie..
