Other Site Characteristics

Hoz labrada por el río Jucar sobre estratos de calizas y dolomías secundarias, con frecuentes escarpes y laderas empinadas, cubierta mayoritariamente por pinares de Pinus halepensis y denso sotobosque. Esta zona contrasta fuertemente con el entorno, de relieve llano y con predominancia de cultivos agrícolas sobre bosques y matorrales, apareciendo como una "isla" ecológica para numerosas especies.

4.2 Quality and importance

El pinar de Pinus halepensis de este lugar tiene un buen grado de conservación, con un denso sotobosque y matorral o pastizal acompañante de composición variable según las condiciones ambientales cambiantes en la hoz (Rhamno-Quercion cocciferae, Rhamno-Juniperetum phoeniceae, Buxo-Juniperetum phoeniceae, Salvio lavandulifoliae-Erinaceetum anthyllidis, Cisto clusii-Rosmarinetum, Stipo-Helictotrychetum filifolii). Aparece como una masa aislada en la Manchuela, sin duda por la transformación humana del resto de pinares asentados sobre suelos menos rocosos para el cultivo agrícola. Por tal motivo, es un refugio para numerosas especies forestales (Hieraaetus pennatus, Circaetus gallicus, Accipiter gentilis, Accipiter nisus, Caprimulgus ruficollis, Felix sylvestris, Meles meles, Genetta genetta, Martes foina, etc.) En las abruptas laderas existen matorrales de sabina negra bien representados (Buxo-Juniperetum phoeniceae, Rhamno-Juniperetum), encontrándose en los cortados comunidades rupícolas calcícolas (Chaenorhino-Sarcocapnetum) y de repisas cársticas (Sedion micrantho-sediformis), incluidos pastizales efímeros (Saxifrago tridactylitae-Hornungietyum petreae). Es en estos roquedos donde se refugian para criar las especies de aves rupícolas (Falco peregrinus, Hieraaetus fasciatus, Aquila chrysaetos, Bubo bubo, Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax, Petronia petronia, Apus melba, Ptyonoprogne rupestris, Phoenicurus ochruros, Monticola solitarius, etc.) El río Júcar, a pesar de la ausencia de caudal ecológico de las Presas de Alarcón y Henchideros, mantiene, gracias a las respectivas filtraciones, una buena galería fluvial (Rubio-Populetum albae, Salicetum neotrichae), con nutria (Lutra lutra) martín pescador (Alcedo atthys) y especies de peces autóctonos (Barbus guiraonis, Chondrostoma polylepis, Chondrostoma toxostoma, Cobitis paludica).

Los datos del formulario difieren de los contenidos en la cartografía nacional de hábitats. En esta fuente se ignoran los pinares de P. halepensis, cartografiándose, sin embargo, las comunidades de su sotobosque (matorrales dominados por Juniperus phoenicea), y asimilándose partes del pinar a la asociación identificativa de los encinares mesomediterráneos castellanos (Quercetum rotundifoliae). Para rellenar esta ficha se ha seguido el Mapa Forestal Nacional, que identifica los pinares mediterráneos como tales, ajustándose mejor a los fines de la Directiva. Por este motivo, no aparece el hábitat "encinares" (inexistente en la zona" y queda reducido el de "matorrales arborescentes de Juniperus spp." a los reducidos enclaves de ladera calcárea abrupta dominados por Juniperus phoenicea (Buxo-Juniperetum phoeniceae sensu stricto)
