Other Site Characteristics

Conjunto de dos lagunas endorreicas sobre suelos silíceos (rañas pliocuaternarias) rodeadas de pastizales estacionales y cultivos de secano, de carácter estacional, desecándose habitualmente en verano.

4.2 Quality and importance

Esta laguna presenta comunidades terofíticas anfibias de charcas mediterráneas muy bien conservadas (Preslio cervinae-Eryngietum corniculati, Pulicario paludosae-Agrostietum salmanticae, Junco pygmeaei-Isoetetum velati), así como una comunidad de Littorella uniflora y Eleocharis aciculares que representa una irradiación meridional de la clase de vegetación anfibia de aguas oligótrofas y frías Littorellion uniflorae. Es un humedal que con altos niveles hídricos resulta frecuentado por numerosas aves acuáticas tanto en paso como en invernada. Para la grulla común (Grus grus), esta zona tiene especial valor como escala durante el paso primaveral, habiéndose contabilizado contingentes migradores variables entre 4.600 y 8.200 aves durante los años 1.981 a 1.985. El borde de la laguna es utilizado entonces como dormidero por un número variable de aves, habiéndose llegado hasta casi 3.000 ejemplares en días excepcionales. El paso otoñal es irregular. No parece ser utilizada como área de invernada.
