Other Site Characteristics

Zona integrada por las lagunas de Castillejo, Paniagua, La Nava, Navazos de San Martín y Cantohincado, en la Comarca de La Jara (provincia de Toledo). Se trata de pequeñas lagunas temporales situadas, en el caso de la Laguna de Castillejo, sobre la plataforma o meseta de la Comarca de La Jara, en el límite delas terrazas fluviales del Tajo, que conforman las "Barrancas de Talavera" y, en el caso de las Lagunas de Belvís de La Jara, sobre las rañas de Paniagua, afloramientos pizarrosos que se encuentran recubiertos por una capa superficial de cantos de cuarcita y arcilla roja, depositadas en tioempos relativamente recientes.

4.2 Quality and importance

Las Lagunas del complejo de La Jara son lagunas temporales, muy someras, sobre superficies de "rañas", que sustentan formaciones bien conservadas de vegetación de lagunas temporales mediterráneas, calificadas de interés prioritario, estando representadas las asociaciones vegetales (Junco pygmaei-Isoetetum velati), y (Pulicario paludosae-Agrostietum salmanticae). Entre las especies singulares de flora presentes en estas lagunas, destacan Marsilea strigosa, Isoetes velatum, Isoetes histrix y Eryngium corniculatum, las tres primeras incluidas en el Catálogo regional de Especies Amenazadas de Castilla-La Mancha, con la categoría "De Interés Especial".
