Other Site Characteristics

Laguna de origen natural con una marcada estacionalidad, acogiendo las aguas de lluvia de otoño e invierno, que se evaporan entre finales de primavera y principios de verano. Se abastece del agua de escorrentía de los terrenos circundantes que con una ligera pendiente vierten sus aguas a la laguna, por lo que su régimen hídrico esta totalmente condicionado por las oscilaciones pluviométricas anuales. Posee poca capacidad de almacenamiento dado que es muy somera y tiene poca profundidad (no llega a 1 metro en su parte más profunda).Está situada en unas dehesas poco densas en las proximidades de la ciudad de Badajoz, más concretamente en el paraje de "El Alcornoque" situado al sureste del casco urbano, en las inmediaciones de la urbanización Tres Arroyos. El hecho de estar en esta finca, hace que haya sido conocida también con el nombre de "laguna del Alcornoque", lo cual ha podido provocar cierta confusión con el nombre que se le ha asignado para incluirla en la Red Natura 2000: Laguna temporal de Tres Arroyos, ya que este entorno, hasta la carretera de Corte de Peleas es conocido con este topónimo.

4.2 Quality and importance

Un total de 4 elementos referidos en la Directiva Hábitats se encuentran representados en dicho enclave: por una parte, 3 hábitats de los cuales dos son priorarios según Anexo I de la Directiva, y por otra, 1 se corresponden con taxones del Anexo II de la Directiva Hábitats, la planta Marsilea batardae. Destaca la presencia de los estanques temporales mediterráneos, que están muy bien representados con este tipo de laguna, las zonas subestépicas de gramíneas y los bosques de quercinias.Además la zona acoge otros taxones fuera del Anexo II, destacando los anfibios Alytes cisternasii, Alytes obstetricans, Bufo bufo, Bufo calamita, Rana perezi y Salamandra salamandra, las aves Anas platyrhynchos, Buteo buteo y Carduelis carcuelis, los reptiles Lacerta lepida y Malpolon monspessulanus y el mamífero Erinaceus europaeus.
